5 Delicious Ways to Use Cocoa Butter

Rich and chocolatey, the scent of raw, unrefined cocoa butter is unmistakable.

How Is Cocoa Butter Made?

Cocoa Butter is extracted from the cacao beans of the cacao tree, which is native to Central and South America. Cocoa butter and cocoa powder are produced from the roasted cacao beans (cocoa is the term used once the cacao beans have been roasted).

Why Do We Love Cocoa Butter?

The butter is rich, smooth and ultra hydrating and is prized for its skin properties. But that's not all its good for. In fact you've probably eaten cocoa butter as it is the key ingredient in chocolate, giving it that melt-in-your-mouth texture. Raw cocoa butter is edible and has the most wonderful chocolatey-vanilla scent. Read on for how you can get all the benefits of this delicious natural butter.

What Are The Benefits Of Cocoa Butter?

As a plant-derived source of saturated fats, researchers have found raw cocoa butter to be beneficial for cardiovascular health, and it can actually reduce the risk of heart disease. Its high antioxidant content can help fight off illness and improve immunity. It is a very stable fat and retains its nutrients even when heated.

A healthy and delicious way to get in some of the goodness of cocoa butter is to make your own chocolates! These are sugar-free, allergen free and can be made vegan (substitute the honey for a sweetener such as xylitol or stevia).

How Does Cocoa Butter Help The Skin?

  • Fight the signs of aging.
  • Heal dry, cracked skin.
  • Soothe burns and rashes.
  • Help heal skin infections.
  • Treat eczema and other skin conditions.

It is also a wonderful lip conditioner, giving your lips a silky protective layer, as well as making a delicious chocolate-scented hair treatment. Cocoa butter makes a great shaving cream and helps prevent nicks and cuts. It can also be used during pregnancy to help moisturise the skin and prevent stretch marks. Cocoa butter adds richness, thickness and moisturising properties to cosmetics.
