This guide made the most sense for me after doing some of my own research about formulating cosmetic products.

It is easy to understand and gives great practical steps and recipes that turn out really well. It was just the right amount of advice for a beginner.
I really like the information on PH and substitutions. I'd found a lot of recipes but they didn't turn out well when I tried them and this book helped me understand why.

If you were to scan your data base you will have some idea of how many products I have bought.

Beginners guide to formulation

Juliette has done a fantastic job (so far) in making what has been a daunting subject for me - simplistic. I actually understand what goes into formulating and how to approach it better. I am sure that by the time I have completed the book I will feel confident to work with some of the scarier aspects like the various phases and also working with preservatives. How to formulate a foot balm with therapeutic balm and adding essential oils like lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil and what carrier oil to use

A foot balm is definitely something you can create yourself!

While we aren't able to develop custom formulations or recipes, we can certainly point you in the right direction. A basic balm is simply made by gently melting your oils, butters and wax together, then allowing the mixture to cool and set.

For a rich foot balm, you could consider ingredients such as:
- Shea Butter or Mango Butter for richness and nourishment.
- A carrier oil such as Sweet Almond Oil to help adjust the texture and spreadability.
- Beeswax or a suitable plant wax to give the balm structure.
If you'd like to further adjust the feel or firmness, ingredients such as Cetearyl Alcohol can also be incorporated.

Lavender, Eucalyptus and Peppermint essential oils are all popular choices for foot care products. Just be sure to keep the total essential oil level within appropriate dermal safety limits and always patch test before wider use.

Formulation is often a process of creating small batches, testing them and making adjustments until you achieve the texture and skin feel you're looking for.

If you create a formula and find you're having trouble with it - for example it's too soft, too hard, too greasy or grainy - we'd be happy to help troubleshoot.
