Why do Butters and Balms become grainy?
Sometimes when a butter or balm is melted and then cools down slowly, parts of it - like the stearic acid - can harden into little grains. These are the fatty acids with a higher melting point separating out and forming crystals, while the softer parts stay creamy.
To fix it, gently melt the balm or butter until it’s completely liquid, then cool it down quickly. This helps everything stay smooth.
