Escentia Avocado Butter - Refined is a plant-based butter made from the flesh of the avocado fruit and refined for a smoother, more neutral profile. It has an ivory colour, mild nutty aroma and soft butter-like consistency while remaining solid at room temperature. This makes it useful in creams, balms, soaps, conditioners, massage blends and body care products where richness and skin-softening properties are wanted. It is a cosmetic butter for external use and formulation work, rather than a food ingredient.

Great for the skin!

I have been using it for my scalp and hair, mixing it with Mango butter. It hasn't disappointed. My hair also wants moisture and that's exactly what these butter she's given me. It also locks in the moisture.

Thenni decided to try it my skin because I have a very dry skin. I am so happy to say that My skin has been glowing and the spots are fading. It feels soft and smooth and I am satisfied.

What an amazing product....I've decided keep my hair natural and have an afro....this product is amazing for afro hair.

VERY Hard !

I was surprised at how hard it was (the same consistency as frozen dairy butter). According to Google one should be able to smear Avo butter at room temp and its melting point is 90°F / 32°C. I found that I had to use almost boiling water to melt it.
My original intention was to combine it with aqueous cream but I see now that it isn't as pure as I thought.
Would you please advise me on how or what to combine it with to make an easily spreadable cream for face and / or body?

Hi Dianne, most pure cosmetic plant butters will have a melting point of well above 32C. Butters typically need to be melted down to work with, unless you live in a very hot environment in which case they may become softer in the summer (it's also winter time now so cold temperatures = hardness).

You can melt the avo butter to liquefy it and then blend into your aqueous cream, or you can melt it and combine with other oils to create a softer skin butter/balm. We also have recipes on our blog so make sure to check there :)

Hi Simphiwe, you need to melt it down and then allow it to reset while stirring gently until it thickens a little. This will prevent any lumps from forming

Smells like biltong

Feels good on skin but It smells as though it's previously been used to cook meat to be perfectly honest. My tub was also quite gritty but after making my products and heating it up it smoothed out. It takes quite a bit of effort to cover the smell and I would not use this on it's own which is unfortunate because I wasn't counting on adding too much essential oil. I really like the texture.

Oh no, so sorry you didn't like the scent! I quite enjoy the scent but everyone smells things differently.
The graininess is a result of temperature fluctuations during transportation, where it may melt and then cool slowly, and the fatty acids in the butter cool quicker than the butter itself, resulting in a grainy texture.
It can easily be fixed by simply gently but thoroughly remelting the butter until no more grains remain, then placing in the fridge to cool quickly and evenly :)

Avo butter is usually impossible to find, but so divine! It makes a fantastic vegan replacement for beeswax in most recipes as it's the hardest of the butters (shea, cocoa, etc.) It's nutrient dense too, so really good for hair and skin.
