Sodium lactate is the salt of lactic acid, and is a wonderful humectant and moisturiser in skincare products.
In addition to its moisturising properties, it is commonly used in soap making to help harden the soap. A harder bar means the soap can be unmolded quicker (saving you time), and it lasts longer (making customers happy).
Size: 50ml, 100ml, 200ml, 500ml or 1L.
Uses of sodium lactate
- Its primary use of that of a humectant in skin and hair care
- Also used in soap making, to harden bars faster!
- Acts as a pH buffer when used in conjunction with lactic acid
- Can be used to gently adjust pH upwards in acidic solutions
Benefits of sodium lactate
- Moisturising and humectant properties
- Ability to hold water, similarly to hyaluronic acid
- Rich in electrolytes (salts), as sodium lactate is the salt of lactic acid
Usage instructions
Can be used to replace vegetable glycerine in a formula. Add to the water phase.
Can be hot or cold processed.
pH: 7.67
Typical usage rate in personal care products: 2% but can be used from 0.5 - 4%.
In soapmaking:
CP soaps: 1 teaspoon/500g oils, added to cooled lye water.
HP soaps: 3-5% of oils weight
