Tormentil is considered useful in cases of diarrhea, especially when it is acute or of nervous origin. Also for intestinal infections - dysentery, gastroenteritis and enterocolitis.

Traditional uses (external)
- As a mouthwash for laryngitis, pharyngitis, bleeding gums, and mouth ulcers.
- Use as a lotion to ease hemorrhoids.
- A strong decoction can be used to wash inflamed eyes.
- It will speed up the healing of wounds and cuts.

Popularly to use as a dye.
How to use
- Decoction: Put 1-2 teaspoonfuls of herb with 1 cup of cold water. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 10-15 min. Strain and drink 3 times a day.
- Tincture: Take 2-4 ml 3 times a day.
Warnings
- Appears to be safe for use in most people however it may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting and stomach complaints.
- Not recommended for use whilst pregnant or breastfeeding.
