INCI: African Geranium

Fight infections, fevers, and sore throats with Pelargonium sidoides. Often called African Geranium, this potent botanical is native to southern Africa - especially Lesotho, South Africa, and parts of Zimbabwe. Its roots have been used for centuries by Zulu, Basotho, Xhosa, and other Indigenous healing traditions to support chest complaints like coughs, colds, and bronchitis; digestive issues including diarrhoea and stomach upset; and general wellness for wounds, fevers, fatigue, and recovery after illness. It made its way to Europe in the late 19th century as “Umckaloabo,” where it became known for aiding tuberculosis recovery.

♡ Why we love it: Pelargonium sidoides is naturally rich in compounds like cumarins, phenols, tannins, and essential oils. These contribute to its well-known profile of respiratory support, immune-boosting benefits, and digestive comfort - even being used historically for dysentery. In skincare, African Geranium extract offers antimicrobial, astringent, and calming qualities. It lends a soft earthy aroma to creams and gels while helping soothe small wounds, sores, redness, irritation, and minor eruptions.

Sizes: 500g, 1kg.

This product is certified: Vegan and Food Grade.

• Respiratory infections like bronchitis, sinusitis, and pneumonia, tonsillitis and rhinopharyngitis
• It is often used as an alternative to antibiotics
• Acute and chronic ear, nose and throat infections
• Rapid improvement in the symptoms associated with colds and flu
• Analgesic (absence of pain) effect

While most other cough, cold and sinus medications simply mask outward symptoms, the mechanisms and actions of Pelargonium sidoides actually support faster recovery. Clinical trials show that Pelargonium sidoides shortens the duration and reduces the severity of upper respiratory irritations. If drinking tea it can be made 3 times daily with one teaspoon of herb.

  • Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding
  • Those with auto-immune conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), or other conditions should not use Pelargonium
  • AKA: Umckaloabo and South African geranium
