Introduce an instant classic to your shelves with honeybush. Naturally sweet, malty and floral, honeybush was nurtured by South African Indigenous communities as a key botanical in the fynbos flora, and later by settlers as a soothing, caffeine-free tea. It was first used for comforting the chest and throat, settling digestion, and serving daily wellness. Its lovely honeyed taste made it a favourite in tea blends, where it’s commonly combined with botanicals like rooibos, chamomile, cinnamon and berries.
♡ Why we love it: Honeybush isn’t only delicious hot, chilled, or even as a syrup for pancakes - it’s also full of compounds like xanthones, flavonoids, and minerals. These give it the characteristics of fighting oxidative stress and soothing the respiratory system. The lack of caffeine makes it excellent as a calming tea, suitable for evenings and family-friendly blends. Its lower concentration of tannins also makes it less astringent, leaving a gentler feel with regards to digestion.
These golden extracts are also useful in skincare blends, mists, gels, and bath soaks for skin-calming and antioxidant support. They add a soft, honeyed botanical note to soaps and bath salts, and in cosmetics they’re used as an antioxidant boost, improving moisturising support and calming the skin - especially for sensitive and delicate types.
