INCI: Citric acid

Essentially Natural Citric Acid - Anhydrous is a fermentation-derived organic acid used widely for pH adjustment and DIY bath and body projects. The anhydrous form is especially popular for bath bombs and fizz balls because it is easier to work with in moisture-sensitive recipes. Citric acid is also used to help delay discolouration and support vitamin stability in suitable formulations. It is fully biodegradable and food safe for personal use.

Beautifying Rose Milk Bath Bombs

1 c baking soda

½ c citric acid

½ c cornstarch or arrowroot powder

¼ c powdered milk

3 T Epsom salt

dried rose petals

1 tsp water or rose floral water

3 -4 tsp almond oil

15 - 20 drops rose oil

Whisk the dry ingredients and the rose petals together in a bowl. In a separate bowl mix the wet ingredients together, then slowly add the liquid to the dry ingredients, whisking as you go. If the mixture holds its shape when squeezed together it is ready, otherwise if not, use a spray bottle of water to spray once or twice to moisten the mixture. Don't spray too much or it will fizz. Press the mixture into molds and leave to dry overnight. View more of our bath bomb recipes on our blog.

Q: What is the difference between anhydrous and monohydrate citric acid?

Q: Is citric acid a preservative?
A: It is mainly a pH adjuster, it can support preservation by helping formulas stay in a pH range where preservatives perform well.

Q: Can I use it to remove limescale?
A: Yes, it is commonly used in descaling recipes for mineral buildup.
