Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about choosing and using Essentially Natural ingredients.

What kinds of ingredients are used to make skin cleansers?

Skin cleansers are usually made with surfactants, solubilisers, humectants, and sometimes soothing or conditioning ingredients. The exact combination depends on whether you want a gel, cream, foam, milk, or micellar-style cleanser.

Are all skin cleansers made with the same type of surfactant?

No. Different surfactants give different levels of foam, cleansing strength, and skin feel. Some are chosen for a gentler cleanse, while others are better suited to stronger wash-off products.

Can I make a gentle cleanser that still foams?

Yes. Foam level and gentleness are not exactly the same thing. A well-balanced blend of surfactants can still give a pleasant foam while keeping the formula milder.

Are gel cleansers and cream cleansers made in the same way?

Not usually. Gel cleansers often rely on surfactants and thickeners, while cream cleansers may include emulsifiers, oils, and a different texture system. The ingredient choice depends on the type of cleanser you want to create.

Does a skin cleanser need a preservative?

If the formula contains water, yes, a suitable preservative is usually needed. Cleansing ingredients do not replace proper preservation in a finished product.
