As 2024 starts to wrap up, I'm sure many of us are feeling the weight of the year and craving some much-needed relaxation and time to ourselves. Whether it's the daily grind of work, family responsibilities, or just life's ups and downs, finding time to truly unwind can be a challenge. That's why I'm so excited to share a natural remedy that can help you relax and recharge: Himalayan Black Salt, Herbal Black Salt or Kala Namak.

If you've heard of Pink Himalayan Salt, the idea that multiple colours of Himalayan salt has probably never crossed your mind. Let me put your mind at ease, there are a lot of colours, but each "version" reveals something about the salt's mineral content.

Himalayan Black Salt aka Herbal Black Salt aka Kala Namak, in particular, is a mineral-packed salt that isn't just for seasoning your meals (which makes food taste amazing) - it's fantastic for your overall well-being. Let's take a look at why this incredible salt should be a go-to, not only in your kitchen pantry but also in your self-care routine.

What is Himalayan Black Salt and How is it Made?

Himalayan Black Salt is a unique, mineral-rich salt that is manufactured using Himalayan or other natural rock salt through a special kiln-ring process incorporating Ayurvedic herbs. It has a lower sodium content than common table salt and is rich in essential minerals such as iron, calcium, and magnesium. It's known for its pungent aroma and varying colour shades, ranging from dark violet to pink, which come from these trace minerals. By soaking your feet in our DIY recipe, while gently massaging your feet, you're getting the fabulous benefits of both massage and minerals found in Himalayan Black Salt and other amazing ingredients.

Here's how you can create your own relaxing foot soak using natural ingredients:

DIY Himalayan Black Salt Foot Soak Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Himalayan Black Salt (Kala Namak)

15 drops of your favourite essential oils (some options include lavender for relaxation or peppermint for soothing relief)

1 tbsp Coconut Oil (hydrates skin)

1 tbsp Olive Oil (moisturises and smooths skin)

2 tbsp Baking Soda (detoxifies and softens skin)

1 cup of Epsom salts (for added magnesium benefits)

500ml Glass Container

Dried Chamomile Flowers (for a special touch and calming effect)

Method:

  1. Fill the jar, layering a little Himalayan black salt and Epsom Salt, over each other till finished.
  2. Then fill it the rest of the way with baking soda and some Dried Chamomile Flowers. 
  3. Stir through so the mixture is evenly dispersed. 
  4. Then add in about 15 drops of your essential oil of choice, Olive and Coconut Oil.
  5. Stir well so the mixture is like that of slightly damp sand. Put the lid on and store it in a dry place. 
  6. To use, scoop out a few small tablespoons of bath salts and enjoy a relaxing soak using warm water.

Not only will this foot soak soothe tired feet and provide the relaxation and self-care you deserve but will also rejuvenate your skin.

Himalayan Recovery Mist

Ingredients

Phase A

39.65% Water

40.50% Cape Chamomile Hydrosol (calming and anti-inflammatory)

0.20% Sodium Gluconate (chelating agent)

7.00% Vegetable Glycerine (humectant, drawing moisture to the skin and keeping it hydrated)

1.00% Himalayan Black Salt (Kala Namak) (rich in essential minerals)

Phase B

10.00% OliveM 300 (solubiliser)

0.10% Grapeseed Oil (lightweight and rich in antioxidants, it helps nourish and condition the skin)

0.25% Eucalyptus Essential Oil (known for providing a cooling effect that may ease tension)

0.10% Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (known for its calming properties, it helps reduce stress and promote relaxation)

0.15% Clary Sage Essential Oil (calming and balancing)

0.10% Vitamin E Oil (antioxidant)

0.95% Geogard 221 (natural preservative)

Method

1. Slightly heat the water and stir in the Himalayan Black Salt until dissolved. Let the mixture cool before mixing the rest of the ingredients in phase A under low shear until combined.

2. Combine ingredients in phase B. Stir gently until fully blending

3. Add phase B to phase A, slow and gentle, until the ingredients come together.

4. Check/adjust pH to 5.3 - 5.8. Read here for more on pH adjustment.

Spray and massage on areas where your body feels tight and sore before bed. We aren’t claiming any pain relief with this product, but it may help promote relaxation and a restful sleep.
