Xanthan Gum is a fine, plant-derived thickener used to build viscosity and improve stability in DIY cosmetics and personal care products. The 200 mesh grade is finer than coarser grades, which helps it disperse and hydrate more quickly in water. It is commonly used in gels, cleansers, shampoos, lotions, and other water-based systems where a smoother, thicker texture is needed. This is a raw formulation ingredient rather than a finished product.

Your staff were extremely efficient and helpful, however for my application, this xanthum gum did not thicken. I usually purchase xanthum gum 80. This was xanthum gum 200.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I’m really sorry to hear that the xanthan gum didn’t perform as expected for your application - we do understand how disappointing that can be.

You’re absolutely right in noting the difference between 80 mesh and 200 mesh xanthan gum, and this is likely the key factor here. While both are the same ingredient, the finer 200 mesh behaves quite differently during use and can appear not to thicken if it isn’t dispersed correctly.

With 200 mesh xanthan gum, we generally recommend:
- Pre-dispersing it in glycerine or another humectant before adding to water, or
- Very slowly sprinkling it into rapidly moving water while blending

If added directly to water without pre-dispersion, it can clump or hydrate unevenly, which prevents proper thickening - even though the gum itself is fully functional.

xantham gum

The product formed clumps when miseducating with surfactants and was too difficult to dissolve. Tried with room temperature distilled water first, then opted for lukewarm distilled water. Ended up using a whisker to get rid of the clumps. What am i doing wrong? please advise.Regards

Hi, you need to hydrate it with a little vegetable glycerine, then add the water and then blend with a soup blender :)

This will last a long time

I use this product as one of the ingredients in my DIY shampoo. It will last a long time as I use only 1/4 teaspoon in my shampoo.

As I read a few reviews on how some products spilled when people opened them, I carefully opened the package and nothing spilled. So I am happy that I can open and reseal the package everytime.

I'm only going to give one review for all the stuff I got. The tubs are great, the plastic bags not so much. Two of the packages ripped while being opened causing the product to spill out unexpectedly.
