Pure Deodorised Beef Tallow is carefully rendered beef fat that undergoes an extended, gentle water-washing process to create a cleaner, smoother tallow with a significantly milder aroma and flavour than traditionally rendered tallow. Sourced from grass-fed, free-range, locally raised cattle, it retains the rich, versatile qualities tallow is valued for, while its more neutral sensory profile makes it especially useful where a pronounced beef aroma is not wanted. The tallow is washed five times with clean water before undergoing a sixth, gentle dry render to remove remaining moisture and refine the finished fat.

♡ Why we love it: The extra processing makes a real difference to how versatile this tallow feels in use. Its pale colour, smooth texture and much more neutral aroma make it an excellent choice when you want the useful properties of traditional beef tallow without a noticeable beefy character.

Q: What makes this tallow deodorised?
A: The rendered tallow goes through five gentle washes with clean water. Between washes, the water and water-soluble residues are separated from the fat. It then receives a sixth, gentle dry render to remove remaining moisture and further refine the tallow.

Q: Is deodorised tallow completely odourless?
A: No. It is still natural beef tallow, but the repeated washing process significantly reduces the stronger beef aroma associated with traditionally rendered tallow.

Q: Why is deodorised tallow more expensive than standard tallow?
A: It takes considerably more time, water and handling to produce. The repeated washing, separation and final dry-rendering stages also result in greater product loss during processing.

Q: Does deodorising mean fragrance has been added?
A: No added fragrance is used to create the more neutral aroma. The change comes from the repeated water-washing, separation and careful re-rendering process.

Q: What does water washing actually remove?
A: The washing process helps separate water-soluble impurities, proteins and other residues that can contribute to tallow's stronger natural aroma and flavour.

Q: Why choose deodorised tallow instead of traditionally rendered tallow?
A: Choose it when you want the versatility and characteristic properties of beef tallow with a cleaner, milder aroma and flavour that is less noticeable in the finished application.
