INCI: Iron oxide - red CI77491

Essentially Natural Red Iron Oxide is a cosmetic-grade mineral pigment used to create earthy red, terracotta and natural-looking colour tones. Its warm, muted character is ideal for cosmetic and DIY projects that need grounded colour rather than a bright synthetic-looking red. Because it is an insoluble pigment, it is dispersed into a suitable base and can be blended with black, brown, yellow or white pigments to create customised shades.

♡ Why we love it: We choose to offer Red Iron Oxide because it gives makers dependable, natural-looking colour across a wide range of cosmetic projects. It works beautifully on its own for warm terracotta tones or as part of more nuanced shade blends.

Q: Is Red Iron Oxide water soluble?
A: No. It must be dispersed through the formulation rather than dissolved.

Q: What colour does it produce?
A: It creates warm earthy reds, rusts and terracotta-style tones rather than bright or neon red.

Q: Can it be mixed with other pigments?
A: Yes. Blend it with other iron oxides or titanium dioxide to adjust depth, warmth and lightness.

Q: Why should it be pre-dispersed?
A: Pre-dispersion helps distribute the pigment more evenly and reduces visible speckling or colour streaks.
