By now we are all familiar with the pretty pink coloured salt that is mined in Pakistan (so not actually the Himalayas). Himalayan pink salt is rich in trace elements and minerals which give the pink colour, and also make it popular as a condiment for foods. But did you know, salt can also be good in cosmetic products? Salt is toning and tightening on the skin, and it is abrasive so makes for a good exfoliant which smooths the skin and sloughs away dead skin cells.

Himalayan salt is very reasonably priced and therefore makes an excellent 'base' ingredient. If you use it as the bulk of a product then you can save yourself money on ingredients. With that in mind, we're creating Himalayan salt scrubs, which are perfect gifts!

Salt is a common exfoliant used in scrubs and polishes. It is fairly abrasive so I don't recommend using it on your more sensitive facial skin, but rather on feet and body where your skin is thicker and enjoys a bit more exfoliation. Keep in mind that salt can sting any cuts so please do not use it if you have any open wounds anywhere on your body.

Only use fine Himalayan salt, as the coarse salt will be too chunky and abrasive for the skin.

I love OliveM 300. It is an emollient in itself so it gives a nice soft skin feel, and it also aids rinse off. It will emulsify the oil in the scrub with water so you can rinse it off easily and you aren't left with an oily mess in your bath or shower.

We are including a preservative in this scrub even though it is oil based. Wet fingers introduce germs and bacteria so a preservative is a good idea to prevent that.
