Benzoin oil, also known as Friars Balsam, has a calming effect that can relieve depression and feelings of sadness. Its sweet, balsamic vanilla-like aroma can be used in steam inhalation as a treatment for bronchitis, colds and similar conditions. It presents more like a syrupy liquid than an oil, but it is easy to dilute and is often used as a fixative in soaps and fragrances.

How to use

Add 3-4 drops to a bowl of steaming hot water, cover your head with a towel and breathe in the vapour
Add 1 part Benzoin Essential Oil to 2 parts Rosewater to make a very effective skin cleanser
Apply directly to cracked, chapped, dry skin and to promote the healing of wounds and sores

Blends well with

Because of its sticky, resinous nature, it doesn't make a good base for blends. For skin tonics it can be blended with rosewater and witch hazel.
