Benzoin oil, also known as Friars Balsam, has a calming effect that can relieve depression and feelings of sadness. Its sweet, balsamic vanilla-like aroma can be used in steam inhalation as a treatment for bronchitis, colds and similar conditions. It presents more like a syrupy liquid than an oil, but it is easy to dilute and is often used as a fixative in soaps and fragrances.

How to use
- Add 3-4 drops to a bowl of steaming hot water, cover your head with a towel and breathe in the vapour
- Add 1 part Benzoin Essential Oil to 2 parts Rosewater to make a very effective skin cleanser
- Apply directly to cracked, chapped, dry skin and to promote the healing of wounds and sores

Because of its sticky, resinous nature, it doesn't make a good base for blends. For skin tonics it can be blended with rosewater and witch hazel.

About Standardised Essential Oils
Standardised essential oils are produced to achieve a standard scent, whereas a single species essential oil may vary in scent because it is an individual plant species that can naturally vary with season, rainfall, soil quality, geography and a variety of other factors.
