Give green tea a place in your next serum, toner or moisturiser. This liquid extract brings the leaves of Camellia sinensis, a familiar choice for antioxidant-focused skincare, into a form that’s easy to work with. There’s no brewing or filtering to do, so you can get straight to developing your formula.
We’ve had this extract made specially for Essentially Natural using Zemea® Propanediol, glycerine and purified water. Zemea® is made by fermenting corn-derived glucose, giving us a known plant-derived source for the propanediol. It’s also a useful skincare ingredient in its own right: a moisture-binding humectant and botanical solvent that can work alongside glycerine to support a smooth feel with less stickiness.
♡ Why we love it: Green tea is a familiar favourite, and this format makes it easy to try in something of your own. We especially like the pairing with Zemea® for makers exploring fresh-feeling, moisture-focused skincare, from a simple toner to an everyday facial moisturiser.

FAQs
Q: Why do we specify Zemea® Propanediol?
A: The source matters. Propanediol can be made from plant-derived or petrochemical feedstocks; the ingredient name alone doesn’t tell you which. Zemea® is a named, documented plant-derived grade made by fermenting corn-derived glucose. It also brings useful humectant and solvent properties. Its contribution to hydration and skin feel will depend on your complete formula and the amount of extract used.
Q: Is this a concentrated EGCG or catechin extract?
A: No standardised EGCG or catechin concentration is specified for this product. It is a 1:10 botanical leaf extract and should not be substituted directly for a standardised green tea active without reformulation.
Q: Will this extract make my finished skincare product green?
A: Not necessarily. The extract naturally ranges from light green to amber-brown. Its contribution to the finished colour depends on the amount used and the other ingredients in the formulation.
Q: Is this the same as brewing green tea and adding it to a formula?
A: No. This is a prepared botanical extract made using propanediol, glycerine and water, rather than a simple tea infusion. The two preparations differ in composition and should not be considered directly interchangeable.
