Nautica Geogard Ultra - ECOCERT
Nautica Geogard Ultra - ECOCERT
Stock delay: 2-4 days
ECOCERT approved, Geogard Ultra is a multifunctional preservative, naturally derived and globally accepted. It contains no parabens or formaldehyde releasers, and it utilizes benzoate - an organic acid - as the main preservative.
We love it because it is easy to work with in powder form, and importantly has no scent of its own, making it great for products where you can't hide the smell of a preservative. It also works in formulas with a low pH.

Geogard ultra ingredients
Gluconolactone and sodium benzoate in powder form.
How to use geogard ultra
Usage: 1-2%, diluted in the water phase.
Optimum pH: 3-7
To maximise the pH stability of the final formulation, it may be necessary to employ use of a sodium citrate buffer and pH adjustment as described below:
1. Dose the final product with the required level of Geogard Ultra® along with a 1.5x amount of sodium citrate. So, a 2% dose of Geogard Ultra® should be accompanied by 3% sodium citrate
2. Mix thoroughly to ensure all solids have dissolved and adjust the pH of the formulation to 7.00-7.25 with a 30% sodium hydroxide solution (an alternative to sodium hydroxide could be L-arginine).
3. Finally, adjust the pH to desired final product pH (pH 5.4–5.5 is ideal) with dilute citric acid solution
Keep in mind that salts (sodium) are electrolytes and can interact with certain emulsifiers. Check that your emulsifier has an electrolyte tolerance.
For your safety
Some may be sensitive to sodium benzoate. Avoid use of this preservative if you are, or do a skin patch test first.
This natural product is for external use only. Please exercise caution and do not ingest or take internally. Store away from children, animals, sunlight and heat. If pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult with your medical care-giver before use.

Hi there
Is there anything available that I can substitute for Geogard ECT please?
Hi Juliette
I wanted to order Geogard , but you are out of stock, so i have ordered 2 samples of the Geogard Ultra. I am very new to formulating so don't understand all the ins and outs. I make a face cream that has a hydrosol and carrier oil. Am I to add the ultra in the hydrosol before or after the heating phase and before I add the oil to the hydrosol? I am used to Geogard right at the end of the formulating process.
Thank you
Hi Renee, I reserve a little bit from the water phase and use that to dissolve the Geogard then add at the end. Geogard does benefit from a buffer system with sodium citrate so remember to include that as well. It's just a matter of adding the sodium citrate to the Geogard solution and adjusting the pH. There are instructions for this on the product page
Hi there. I want to buy geoguard 221, but i want to know if i can make the powder into a solution for easier future use and also if i use the powder do i need the sodium citrate?
Hi Ruanda! I haven't done this myself but I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to make up a stock solution of the Ultra for later use. I would do the sodium citrate dosing now, rather than later, as this way you will be able to keep track of the pH better.
The service has been amazing, but I am yet to use this product in my creams... will review once I have some feedback to share
Hi, i want to buy the Geoguard Ultra. Not sure - must i use it with sodium citrate? Or can it be used on its own?
