Evicare® Emulgiza Light is a COSMOS Approved, 100% natural-origin oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier blend supplied in easy-to-use pellets for everything from light body milks and lotions to rich creams and body butters. It combines Glyceryl Stearate Citrate as the primary emulsifier with Cetearyl Alcohol for consistency and emulsion stability, plus Glyceryl Laurate for co-emulsification, improved skin feel and antimicrobial boosting. The pre-blended system is pelletised for easy handling and can create smooth, light-feeling emulsions across a particularly broad viscosity range. It is especially useful for formulators who want more built-in structure and functionality than a single emulsifier can provide.
♡ Why we love it: It combines emulsification, texture building and preservative-boosting functionality in one easy-to-use natural emulsifier blend, making it a versatile choice for both lighter lotions and richer creams.

What it's used for
- Creating oil-in-water creams, lotions, milks and body butters
- Light body lotions and facial emulsions
- Sprayable or low-viscosity emulsions
- Day creams and richer night creams
- Protective creams and higher-viscosity emulsions
- Emulsions containing approximately 10-40% oil phase, depending on the desired final texture
- Providing emulsification and some viscosity-building functionality from a single pre-blended ingredient
- Improving emulsion stability through the combination of Glyceryl Stearate Citrate and Cetearyl Alcohol
- Creating lighter, quicker-spreading sensory profiles than might be expected from heavier traditional emulsifying systems
- Supporting preservation systems through the antimicrobial-boosting contribution of Glyceryl Laurate
- Formulations where a broad pH tolerance is useful
- Formulations where an easy-to-dose pelletised emulsifier is preferred
Who it's for
- Formulators making natural creams, lotions, milks and body butters
- Beginners looking for a more complete emulsifier blend rather than working with a single primary emulsifier
- Experienced formulators wanting greater flexibility over oil phase and final viscosity
- Makers seeking lighter-feeling O/W emulsions
- Formulators working across a broad pH range
- Makers wanting a pelletised emulsifier that is easy to weigh, handle and incorporate
- Formulators looking to simplify an emulsifier system while retaining good control over texture
- Formulators who value RSPO Mass Balance palm sourcing
- Formulators looking for additional preservative-boosting support within an emulsion system
- Water-in-oil emulsions
- Cold-process emulsification where the emulsifier cannot be heated and fully melted
- Formulations where the emulsifier needs to function as the sole preservation system
- Applications requiring an exact one-for-one replacement for another emulsifier without reformulation and stability testing

How to use
- Use at approximately 2.5-7%, depending on the oil phase and desired viscosity.
- Add Emulgiza Light to the oil phase.
- Heat the oil phase until the emulsifier is completely melted.
- A processing temperature of approximately 60-80°C is recommended.
- Heat the aqueous phase appropriately for the chosen hot-process emulsification method.
- Combine the phases and homogenise thoroughly.
- Continue mixing during cooling as appropriate for the formulation.
- Adjust final viscosity with additional thickeners where required. Emulgiza Light builds viscosity on its own, but ingredients such as xanthan gum may still be useful depending on the desired consistency.
- Suitable finished-formulation pH range: approximately 4-10.
- As a general guide, lower use levels and lower oil phases favour lighter milks and lotions, while higher emulsifier levels and larger oil phases can produce richer creams and body butters.
Example Formulation Guide:
| Example Application | Approx. Oil Phase | Emulgiza Light |
|---|---|---|
| Sprayable emulsion | 10% | 3% |
| Body milk | 10% | 3% |
| Light body lotion | 15% | 3.5% |
| Face cream | 15% | 5% |
| Day cream | 20-25% | 5% |
| Rich cream | 25-30% | 7% |
| Body butter | 30-40% | 7% |
These are formulation examples rather than fixed rules. Oils, waxes, gums, electrolytes, actives, processing conditions and other ingredients can all affect final viscosity and stability.
Safety instructions
- For cosmetic formulation use.
- This is a raw material and should be incorporated into a properly formulated finished product before use.
- Use appropriate formulation and manufacturing hygiene practices.
- Do not rely on Emulgiza Light's antimicrobial-boosting effect as a complete preservation system.
- Finished water-containing formulations should still use an appropriate preservation strategy and undergo suitable stability and microbiological testing.
- Test the finished formulation for compatibility, stability and performance before larger-scale manufacture.
- Store the raw material in a dry place protected from direct sunlight and heat.
Faqs
Q: What does HLB 12.2 mean?
A: HLB stands for Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance. Emulgiza Light has an approximate HLB of 12.2, placing it firmly in the range associated with oil-in-water emulsification. HLB is useful when designing an emulsion system, although actual performance also depends on the complete oil phase, emulsifier concentration, processing method and other ingredients.
Q: Is Emulgiza Light a complete emulsifying system?
A: It is considerably more complete than using Glyceryl Stearate Citrate alone. The blend combines the main emulsifier with Cetearyl Alcohol for co-emulsification, consistency and viscosity, plus Glyceryl Laurate for additional co-emulsification, wetting and antimicrobial boosting. Depending on the formulation, additional thickeners or stabilisers may still be useful.
Q: How much Emulgiza Light should I use?
A: The manufacturer's general application range is approximately 2.5-7%. Around 3-3.5% is demonstrated in lighter milks and lotions, approximately 5% in facial and day creams, and around 7% in richer creams and body butters.
Q: Can I make a very light lotion with it?
A: Yes. One of Emulgiza Light's main differentiators is its ability to produce low-viscosity and light-feeling emulsions. Manufacturer examples include sprayable emulsions, body milks and light body lotions.
Q: Can it also make thick creams and body butters?
A: Yes. The manufacturer demonstrates richer creams and body butters using higher oil phases and approximately 7% Emulgiza Light. The final viscosity still depends on the rest of the formulation.
Q: Does Emulgiza Light need to be heated?
A: Yes. It has a melting point of approximately 60°C and the recommended processing temperature is 60-80°C. The manufacturer recommends adding it to the hot oil phase, melting it completely and then homogenising the phases.
Q: What pH can I formulate at?
A: The stated suitable pH range is 4-10, giving it broad flexibility for many cosmetic emulsion types.
Q: Is it the same as Glyceryl Stearate Citrate or Dermofeel GSC?
A: No. Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is the main emulsifier within Emulgiza Light, but Emulgiza Light also contains Cetearyl Alcohol and Glyceryl Laurate. It therefore behaves as a pre-built emulsifier blend rather than a single emulsifier and should not be treated as a direct one-for-one replacement.
Q: Is it the same as Montanov 68 MB?
A: No. Both can be used to create oil-in-water emulsions, but they are different emulsifier systems with different chemistry and formulation behaviour. Emulgiza Light is particularly useful where a formulator wants a Glyceryl Stearate Citrate-based system with built-in consistency support and antimicrobial boosting.
Q: Does the antimicrobial-boosting effect mean I do not need a preservative?
A: No. Glyceryl Laurate contributes an antimicrobial-boosting effect and the manufacturer reports improved performance of preservation systems against selected challenge-test organisms. It should be treated as support for an appropriate preservation system, not as a replacement for one.
Q: Is it suitable for natural formulations?
A: Yes. Emulgiza Light is a 100% natural-origin, COSMOS Approved O/W emulsifier blend. Its palm-derived ingredients are supplied under an RSPO Mass Balance sourcing system.
