Essentially Natural Betaine Genecare OSMS BA is a natural, sugar beet-derived moisturising active used in skin care, hair care, and cleansing products. Not to be confused with surfactant betaines (e.g. Cocamidopropyl Betaine), this ingredient functions as a humectant and moisture-balancing active. It helps support moisture balance, improves the feel of formulations, and can make products feel softer, less sticky, and more comfortable on the skin and hair. In cleansers and shampoos, it is also valued for helping reduce the harsh feel of surfactants. Because it is water soluble and easy to formulate with, it is a versatile addition to serums, creams, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, and scalp care products.
♡ Why we love it: A wonderfully versatile ingredient for formulas that need both performance and a better feel. It supports hydration, improves sensory feel, and helps create gentler, more polished products across skin, hair, and cleansing applications. The upcycled sugar beet origin is a thoughtful bonus for more conscious formulation.

Faqs
Q: Is this the same as cocamidopropyl betaine?
A: No. This is betaine, also known as trimethylglycine. It is a different ingredient with a different function in a formula.
Q: Does betaine add foam on its own?
A: No. It is not a primary surfactant. It is usually added to support moisture, improve formula feel, and help cleansers feel milder and more comfortable in use.
