We’ve walked a long and meaningful road with Fisantekraal Primary School, and throughout this journey one thing has always been clear: the school kitchen is the heartbeat of the school.
Every weekday, this kitchen feeds over 1 000 children, twice a day. It is a place of nourishment, care, and sheer determination — run by an incredible group of staff who show up, day after day, to make sure no child learns on an empty stomach.
In 2023, some major strides were made thanks to the generosity of Kenridge Primary School and PSG Financial Services, who donated two much-needed stainless steel tables, a trolley, and an amazing dish-drying trolley. These additions made a noticeable difference, bringing the kitchen one step closer to being fully functional for both the children and the dedicated team behind the scenes.
But one long-standing problem remained.
For years, the kitchen staff have battled with what can only be described as the dinkiest sink imaginable — completely dwarfed by the massive pots required to cook for hundreds of hungry mouths. To make matters worse, the wooden cupboard beneath it had started rotting away. As the kitchen ladies jokingly (but not entirely jokingly) put it:
“Julle gaan eendag hier kom, dan lê ek dood onder daai kassie!”
(“One day you’ll get here and find me dead under that little cupboard!”)
It was funny… until it really wasn’t.
This is where true teamwork came in:
A huge thank you goes to Loretta Loggenberg, the wonderful school principal, who genuinely listens to the needs of her staff. She managed to find space in the school’s budget to purchase a much-needed, industrial-grade stainless steel double sink — a decision that will make daily life in the kitchen safer, more efficient, and far more dignified. Loretta, thank you for trusting us and for always putting your people first.
We’re also incredibly grateful to Jeremiah Siljeur from Golden Mart for expertly manufacturing and delivering the sink, and to Riaan Spangenberg from RMJ Constructive Solutions for installing it with care and precision.
This may seem like a small upgrade — just a sink — but in a kitchen that feeds over a thousand children every day, it’s a big deal. It’s fewer aches, fewer frustrations, and a whole lot more ease for the people who do the hard, often unseen work of caring for others.
This is what The One Percent Movement is all about: small, practical changes that create meaningful, lasting impact — made possible when people come together.
And this journey? We’re not done yet!
