Traditionally, the Festive Season conjures up images of tables full of food, but at The One Percent Movement we are very aware that this is not always the case. Hunger is a reality in our country no matter the season!
With this in mind, this past weekend our team, armed with ladles and love, came together in the kitchen to chop, dice, stir and spice for a cause close to our hearts. Using Maxi Blend food parcels (and a mountain of fresh onions and carrots), we filled pot after pot with hearty stew -- the kind that warms more than just bellies.

Once cooled, the stew was packed into biodegradable bags and frozen, ready to be delivered to Alletta’s Soup Kitchen just in time for the holiday season.
If you’ve followed Alletta’s story, you’ll know that she’s the beating heart of her community. Not only does she make sure that more than 200 people have a good meal twice a week, she's also a woman who never turns away a hungry neighbour, no matter the hour. Last year, we were able to gift her a second-hand box freezer thanks to the generosity of Judy and Gary Kelly, and this weekend’s cooking session was the perfect way to fill it up before the festive break.

As Alletta takes a well-earned rest over December, her freezer will remain stocked with these ready-to-eat meals, ensuring that anyone who knocks on her door will still be met with kindness, compassion, and a nourishing meal.

A huge thank you to the amazing patrons of Essentially Natural and the EN team themselves for making this possible! The funds raised during our 2025 Mandela Day Food Drive helped bring this project to life. Together, we raised R3 957 -- that's over 1100 meals! Your generosity will now be turned into nourishment for an entire community, allowing us to keep the spirit of giving alive all year round.
