Can you use this oil for treating toenail fungus and is it effective? If so can you just use it neat or does it need to be diluted?

Essentially Natural

Hi there Michelle,

Thanks for reaching out!

While Thyme Essential Oil has great antifungal properties, and has been recognised for its ability to stop the growth of fungi (inculding those that may contribute to a nail fungus) - effectiveness can vary from person to person, and we would not be able to say whether it would completely cure ones fungus problem. Consistency and patience are usually needed, as toenails grow slowly.

If you were to use it, it would need to be diluted - or it may cause irritation. You can combine it with a carrier oil that also has antifungal properties like Coconut Oil or Hemp Seed Oil. An oil like Tamanu Oil could help speed up the healing.

*Always do a patch test before a full application, and be wary if you have particularly sensitive skin.

- Percentage should aim to be around 1%. For short term, targeted applications you can go up to 2% if tolerated, since fungi can be stubborn (though the risk for irritation is higher here).

You may want to consider combining with another essential oil that is antifungal like Tea Tree (still diluted) and remember to keep your feet clean, dry, and nails trimmed.

Lastly, do kindly note that we are not medical professionals. If you find that the infection is severe, persisitent, or is spreading, we would kindly request that you see a medical professional.

We hope that helps. Wishing you all the best and more :)

Kindest regards,
Aiden
