Our DIY Dark Mark Serum Kit includes the key ingredients needed to make a lightweight, water-based serum at home. Designed for beginners, this bundle makes it easy to create a simple daily serum featuring kojic acid and carrot seed essential oil to help improve the look of dark marks, post-blemish marks and uneven-looking skin tone over time.
Ingredients
- 0.5% Kojic Acid
- 0.5% OliveM 300
- ~0.3% Carrot Seed Essential Oil
- 1% Geogard 221
-
97.7% Distilled Water
Note: This formulation uses relatively low levels of the active ingredients, making it a good starting point for most people. Once your skin has adjusted, you can experiment with slightly higher percentages in future batches if desired.
New to formulation? Don't worry! We've included both the percentages and the exact gram measurements for a 250 g batch down below, so you can simply weigh your ingredients and start making.
How to make a 250g batch
- 1.25g Kojic Acid
- 1.25g OliveM 300
- 15 drops Carrot Seed Essential Oil
- 2.5g Geogard 221
-
244g Distilled Water
Method
- Add the kojic acid to the distilled water and stir until fully dissolved.
- In a separate beaker, combine the OliveM 300 and carrot seed essential oil. Stir until fully mixed.
- Add the OliveM 300 mixture to the water phase and stir well.
- Add the Geogard 221 and mix until fully incorporated.
-
Bottle in a clean dark glass pipette or dropper bottle.
Dark glass is important due to how light sensitive the actives are.
How to use
Apply a small amount to clean skin once daily, preferably in the evening. Follow with moisturiser. Use sunscreen during the day when using products aimed at uneven skin tone or pigmentation.
Safety & storage
- Perform a patch test before first use and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
- For external use only.
- Avoid contact with the eyes and sensitive areas.
- Do not apply to broken or irritated skin.
- Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
- When prepared with the recommended preservative and stored correctly, the serum is generally best used within 3–6 months.
-
Always use clean equipment during preparation to help minimise contamination.
