Our DIY Natural Dishwashing Liquid Kit includes the key ingredients needed to make a gentle, effective dishwashing liquid at home. Designed for beginners, this bundle makes it easy to create a fresh, biodegradable dishwashing liquid that cuts through everyday grease while rinsing clean. With added glycerine, it offers a slightly softer feel on hands compared to a more basic surfactant-only formula.

  • 8% Decyl Glucoside
  • 2% Cocamidopropyl Betaine
  • 3% Vegetable Glycerine
  • 1% Xanthan Gum
  • 1% Geogard 221
  • 85% Distilled Water
  • Optional: A few drops of Lemon, Lime or Sweet Orange Essential Oil for a fresh natural scent

    • Note: This recipe is pretty stable, so don't worry if you miss the amounts by a bit. You can increase the amount of surfactants used if you regularly work with heavily greasy pots and pans, but generally the current formula seems quite sufficient for your average dishes.

    New to formulation? This recipe is written in percentages so it can easily be scaled to any batch size. We've also included the exact quantities for a 500g batch to help you get started.

  • 40g Decyl Glucoside
  • 10g Cocamidopropyl Betaine
  • 15g Vegetable Glycerine
  • 5g Xanthan Gum
  • 5g Geogard 221
  • 440g Distilled Water
  1. Combine the Vegetable Glycerine and Xanthan Gum in a beaker and stir until a smooth, lump-free slurry forms.
  2. Add the distilled water and blend until the xanthan gum has fully hydrated.
  3. Gently stir in the Decyl Glucoside and Cocamidopropyl Betaine, taking care not to create excessive foam.
  4. Add the Geogard 221 and stir until fully incorporated.
  5. Bottle into a clean pump or squeeze bottle.

Apply a small amount directly onto a sponge or dish brush and wash as normal. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes.
  • Do not ingest.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • When prepared with the recommended preservative and stored correctly, the dishwashing liquid is generally best used within 3–6 months.
  • Always use clean equipment during preparation to help minimise contamination.
