Horseradish Root (Armoracia rusticana) Dried is a pungent, warming kitchen staple with a long history in traditional herbal use. In food it adds bright heat to sauces, pickles and condiments. As a herb it is often prepared in simple home remedies during cold weather, with a reputation for clearing heavy, stuffy feelings and supporting everyday urinary comfort. Supplied cut and dried for easy measuring, blending and brewing.

Please note: Dried horseradish root is not a flavour-equivalent substitute for fresh horseradish. Drying softens the sharp, volatile heat found in freshly grated root, resulting in a more mellow, earthy profile. It is best suited to slow infusions, vinegars and blended preparations rather than being used in the same way as fresh horseradish.

How to use

- Taste tips: combine with honey and lemon, or steep in apple cider vinegar for kitchen tonics
- Use freshly prepared teas; discard leftovers the same day

This product is grown in an organic and regenerative fashion with as minimal use of insecticides, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides as possible, in certified organic fertilizer. The product is certified food grade. It is not certified organic. Suitable for Kosher, Halaal and Hindi diets.

I am a chef and hoped to use it to flavour sauces etc in cooking. I tried rehydrating it in hot water and cold water and grinding it to a fine powder.
The taste is nothing like fresh horseradish and has a very bitter unpleasant taste with no flavour

You’re absolutely right that dried horseradish behaves very differently from fresh root. Much of fresh horseradish’s sharp heat comes from volatile compounds that are released when the root is freshly grated. These diminish during drying, which means the dried root has a slower, warming pungency with a more earthy profile, rather than the bright, fiery flavour associated with fresh horseradish.
Dried horseradish is typically used in slow infusions, tinctures, or preparations like fire cider, where time and blending with other ingredients help express its warming character, rather than as a direct fresh substitute in sauces. That said, we appreciate that this distinction wasn’t clearly communicated enough in our product description, and we’ll be updating it to better reflect these differences so future customers can make an informed choice.

I couldn’t find any fresh horseradish at our local markets cause it wasn’t in season. I like to make fire cider and keep a batch going all year round. I decided to give this gem a try and it worked like a bomb. This will definitely be a staple in my apothecary cupboard forever. Fanta stuff.
