Dried Greater Celandine has traditionally been used as an herbal remedy for liver diseases, many ailments of the digestive system and for eye irritations. See warnings below.

    INTERNAL:
  • Used as a remedy for infections of the gall bladder and gall stones
  • Effective for all gallbladder, kidney and liver diseases
  • May assist in purifying and stimulating the blood
  • For jaundice
  • Use for stomach pain as an antispasmodic
  •  

    EXTERNAL:

    May be used as in the treatment of tinea.

Celandine is on the Commission E (Germany’s regulatory agency for herbs) list of approved herbs for treatment of intestinal spasms. The average dosage is two to five grams per day. It can be taken internally or used externally.

A tea can be made from this herb drink no more than twice per day.

(Roots) Alkaloids including chelidonine chelerythine, coptisine, protopine. Chelidonic acid, essential oil, saponin, yellow latex with carotenoid latex.

Acts as an anti-spasmodic, cholagogue, anodyne, purgative diuretic.

  • Celandine can cause rashes, itching, and serious allergic reactions in some people
  • The whole plant is reported as being at least mildly poisonous to humans, with the roots being the most toxic
  • Stay within recommended dosages
  • The herb is reported to be poisonous to dogs and some farm animals
  • Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should not use any form of this herb
