Can I dissolve Rice Bran Oil or Wheatgerm oil in this?

Hello - I was wondering if I was making a solid shampoo bar and I wanted to add Rice Bran Oil or Wheatgerm Oil to it - whether I could use Propanediol as a solvent to blend RBO or WGO to get it to incorporate into the surfactant blend? I am looking for something where I could use those oils but I don't want it to weep/leech out, which is what was happening before in spite of me adding an emulsifier.

Hi Candice, no unfortunately you won't be able to as propanediol is water based and therefore won't dissolve oils as oils and water don't mix. You should be able to incorporate the oils directly with the surfactants.

Question

Hi there

Can you use this in place of a solubiliser or would you need to use both to mix the oils and water? Which one would you use for a mouthwash to mix the essential oils with the water? And which is better for body creams, if not both. I'm using Ressasol VPF for my mouthwash. I'm not sure if that's correct, but it is always foggy. I can't get it clear.
Thank you.

Hi Melanie, propanediol is not a solubiliser or emulsifier so you would need to use one of those to mix oils and water together.

You could try Symbiosolv instead of Resassol. I have achieved clear solutions with it. However keep in mind that if you are using a carrier oil rather than an essential oil, then you may not be able to achieve perfectly clear solutions. otherwise it's just a matter of getting the ratios right. Dissolves the Salicylic Acid

SA needs the correct dissolving partner when making toners. This product gives me a 1% SA solution with ease. Propanediol also gives my toner a little smoothness which is perfect.

Essentially Natural 1, 3 Propanediol

Great product for dissolving Salicylic Acid. I also used it in a Niacinamide serum and it's consistency is perfect, no sticky or greasy feeling. Will be purchasing more for sure!
