Get your hands on what is perhaps the best-known “womb tonic” and gentle digestive supporter.

Red Raspberry is a thorny shrub native to Europe and North Asia, now widely cultivated, and while mostly famous for its berries, herbalists prize the leaf as a pleasant tasting classic tonic herb. It became a favourite among midwives supporting women through every stage - from menarche (a woman’s first menstruation) to late pregnancy and menopause. It was also used as a gentle digestive and tissue astringent, especially in teas or extracts for mouth, throat, and gut comfort.

♡ Why we love it: Red Raspberry’s reputation is supported by its phytochemical richness. It contains tannins, fragarine, and antioxidant flavonoids and phenols like quercetin, kaempferol, and ellagic acid, along with vitamins and minerals - particularly vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, and zinc - giving it a solid standing as a nutritive tonic that tastes like black tea.
These actives support its role as a womb tonic, traditionally used to tone the uterus - helping the muscle fibres contract and relax more efficiently - which in turn supports a more comfortable and regular cycle. It was commonly added to blends for easing PMS, menstrual comfort, and a steady flow. Those same tannins and flavonoids also make it useful for loose bowels, throat gargles, overall tissue support, and an added boost to general vitality.

For skincare, raspberry leaf extracts fit naturally into calming, toning, and antioxidant-rich formulations. The tannins help tighten and refine the look of pores, supporting firmer, lifted-feeling skin, while the other phytonutrients soothe, calm, and offer antioxidant protection - perfect for sensitive, stressed, and maturing skin.

NOTE: While generally regarded as safe in normal pregnancy when used appropriately, evidence for outcomes like shorter labour is still limited and mixed. It’s best used under the guidance of a midwife or healthcare provider.
