Basil sweet, also known as sweet basil or Ocimum basilicum, is a variety of basil that is commonly used in cooking. It is native to tropical regions of central Africa and southeast Asia. The leaves of the plant are fragrant and have a strong, clove-like aroma. They are used to add flavor to a wide variety of dishes, including pasta sauces, soups, and salads.
In addition to its culinary uses, sweet basil is also used for its many medicinal properties. It contains a number of beneficial compounds, such as eugenol, which has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, and ursolic acid, which may have anti-cancer properties. Sweet basil is also rich in antioxidants, which can help protect the body against damage from harmful molecules known as free radicals.
