Sweet Basil isn’t just a kitchen staple – it’s also a quiet powerhouse for health and hormonal balance! Native to Central Africa and Southeast Asia, this fragrant herb became so valued that it’s now grown all over the world. Known for its clove-like aroma that elevates pasta, soups, and salads, basil also shines as a traditional herbal tea. In Ayurveda, Unani, and European herbal medicine, it has been celebrated for its wealth of essential oils (including linalool, eugenol, and methyl chavicol), along with tannins, flavonoids, phenols, and rosmarinic acid.
♡ Why we love it: Sweet Basil, whether steeped as a tea or infused into oil, offers a wide range of supportive benefits. It’s traditionally used to aid digestion, relieve menstrual discomfort, ease the respiratory system, and act as a gentle anti-inflammatory with antimicrobial effects. Basil is also considered mildly adaptogenic, helping to calm nerves, balance hormones, and relieve stress, fatigue, or anxiety when taken more regularly. Applied externally, basil oil can soothe skin irritation, ease headaches, and add a refreshing touch to facial steams.
