This moisturising hair mask leverages the power of aloe vera gel and olive oil, while shea butter and cocoa butter are rich emollients that enhance the mask's consistency and effectiveness. Vegetable keratin fortifies the hair, reducing breakage and improving overall hair health.
Ingredients based on total volume of 200ml:
Instructions:
- In a heatproof bowl, gently melt the cocoa butter, shea butter, olive oil, and Montanov 68 MB using a double boiler. Heat to around 70°C to fully dissolve the emulsifier.
- In a separate bowl, warm the aloe vera liquid-gel to around 70°C.
- Slowly pour the aloe vera liquid gel into the oil phase while blending with an immersion blender or whisk. Continue mixing until the texture turns creamy.
- Allow the mixture to cool to below 40°C, then add vegetable keratin and Geogard 221. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
- Blend for another 1-2 minutes to ensure a smooth consistency.
- Transfer into a sterilised jar and store in a cool, dry place.
How to Use:
Apply the mask to clean, damp hair, ensuring even coverage. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water to remove the mask, then shampoo and condition. Use this mask once a week for added moisture and shine.
These DIY recipes are simple and effective ways to incorporate vegetable keratin into your hair care routine, offering both nourishment and protection. By using natural, easily accessible ingredients, you can create hair masks that provide the same benefits as commercial products without the added chemicals. With consistent use, your hair will become stronger, shinier, and more resilient, making these DIY treatments a valuable addition to your hair care regimen.

Hi there Karabo,
For water based products – a great, full spectrum preservative to add is Geogard 221. Do remember to keep the Preservative concentration at 1% of your total formulation.
We hope that helps :)

What kind of preservatives that good for DIY such as this.
Hi Eliza
Thank you for reaching out!
The Moisturising DIY Hair Mask should have a creamy consistency—thick but spreadable.
This should happen when one lets the melted shea butter and cocoa butter cool down slightly before mixing them with the aloe vera gel.
The oils should be warm, not too hot, to help blend everything smoothly.
If the mixture seems too runny, try cooling it further and whisking again.
Let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance :)
Kind Regards,
Aiden
Is the Moisturising DIY Hair Mask suppose to become thick or it remain runny after combining? Do you wait for the oils to cool down before mixing them with the aloe vera gel? Thank you.
