Spring Day at Fisantekraal Primary School marked a memorable and impactful event, thanks to the collaborative efforts of The One Percent Movement, Call to Care, and PSG Financial Services.
In the spirit of giving back to the community and fostering a greener future, PSG, guided by Call to Care, embarked on a mission to transform the school's surroundings into vibrant, eco-friendly spaces. The results were nothing short of remarkable.
Two distinct areas were targeted – one tailored for the grade 3-7 pupils, providing them with a serene outdoor space for learning and relaxation (not to mention playing marbles!) and the other, a secluded oasis designed exclusively for the hardworking teachers. They planted fourteen trees and a variety of hardy plants that will not only beautify the environment but also serve as valuable educational resources for the students. The areas were rounded off beautifully with wood chip and lovely wooden benches.
Pieter and his team from De Smit Ekslusiewe Strukture, not only prepared the areas, they dug holes, installed irrigation to ensure the sustainability of the trees and plants, staked the trees and extended storm water drains!
But the transformation didn't stop there. PSG's commitment to fostering a nurturing environment extended to the installation of an amazing, low maintenance pergola, expertly crafted by Value Fencing, providing much-needed shade and shelter for students and teachers alike.
Additionally, the school's walls will soon come alive with two vibrant murals planned for completion at the end of September, a testament to ongoing progress and potential and one of many projects still in the works (Update: the beautiful murals have been completed!).
This successful continued greening event at Fisantekraal Primary School exemplifies how collaboration between like-minded organisations can make a profound impact on our communities, one project at a time. We at The One Percent Movement are proud to have been a part of this inspiring endeavour, and we look forward to witnessing the continued growth and development of these green spaces for years to come!

Team briefing on an early, chilly Spring Day morning...
The De Smit Ekslusiewe Strukture team, hard at work. James is always happy to show us how its done!
The PSG Group team are not afraid to get their hands dirty!
The expert team from Value Fencing give us a quick smile before getting back to finishing up the gorgeous new pergola.
Preparing a wall for a mural is a massive task! We can't wait to see what the artists whip up!
Juanita from The One Percent Movement gives guidance as the teams lay the wood chip. Apart from making a massive difference to the aesthetics of the area, wood chip is cost-effective, eco-friendly and really easy to keep neat.
We really wanted this area to remain absolutely kid-friendly: The team keeps a square clear of wood chip for playing marbles! Right: Clearly knowing the game, Alif went above and beyond by flattening the marble "pitch" with water to make it absolutely perfect!
Work starts in the teachers' section: The PSG team plant hardy plants that will eventually create a waterfall of green cascading down the retaining block wall.
Who says hard work isn't fun? We just loved the team's energy!
The exhausted team test out the new benches and admire their own handiwork...

What a wonderful partnership with like-minded individuals!
These boots were made for working!
What a transformation!!!
A fabulous wooden picnic bench to round off the teachers' area!
The school principal, Mrs Loggenberg (right), is absolutely thrilled with the results!
Right: William - one of the most hardworking people we have ever had the pleasure to meet! This project (and the ongoing maintenance of the playground!) would not be possible without hime!
Left: By the end of the day, we had a whole team of eager kids that wanted to lend a hand. They were absolutely incredible, and we seriously don't know what we would have done without them! They loved pushing the wheelbarrows back and forth, and we nicknamed them our 'little train' (because you could hear them coming, and they ran - all smiles and limitless energy - in a tight little line!)! You only have to spend a few minutes with these kids to realise their potential and see how much they have and want to give!
The amazing Call to Care team.
