Oilology: Lemon Essential Oil for Tightening and Brightening

Juliette van der Meer

I love massaging lemon juice into my hair for shine and my skin for that extra burst of pimple-fighting vitamin C. So when I found that lemon essential oil can give the same benefits but with much less mess (finding stray lemon cells in your hair isn’t fun), I had to share!

Lemon essential oil is one of the top oils for problem skin because of its many wonderful properties. It contains antioxidants, is vitamin-rich, collagen boosting, contains citric acid, and is antimicrobial and toning.

As an acne fighter, lemon essential oil protects from germs and bacteria, contains antioxidants and vitamin C and boosts collagen production, thereby reducing scarring. Try the delicious Lemon Butter Creme recipe with lemon and tea tree to fight off acne:

Ingredients:

Method: Whisk together till creamy and store in a jar. Massage a small amount on face and neck after washing.

Lemon essential oil can reduce oiliness, cleanse and tone all in one. It has astringent properties which tighten and reduce pore size as well as reducing excess oil production. It has a deep cleansing action (you may know lemon oil is an excellent and safe household cleaner, so imagine what it can do for your skin) and balances your skin’s natural pH. Try the Fabulous Facial Toner:

Ingredients:

Method: Mix well, mist your face with your eyes closed and let dry. Use every time you wash your face.

Your skin will feel on top of the world!

Anti-aging and Lemon Essential Oil

Citric acid and vitamin C in lemon essential oil fight free radicals and the signs of aging in skin. Free radicals steal oxygen which makes skin look saggy and grey. Fight back by adding a few drops of lemon oil to distilled water in a spray bottle and misting your face after washing.

Tightening and brightening

Lemon essential oil helps squeeze out those nasty blackheads by tightening pores, mops up excess sebum and is antibacterial. Lemon is a natural and gentle brightener, so you can safely use it to lighten scars and even skin tone. Use the Fabulous Facial Toner (see above) or simply add a few drops of lemon oil to distilled water in a spray bottle and mist your face after washing.

For a whole-body cleansing and toning, lightening and brightening experience, hop in the bath and rejuvenate with a sprinkle of Lemon Burst Bath Salts:

For fresh looking and smelling, happy skin, lemon essential oil is your answer!
