Creativity and compassion with the Fisantekraal Food Fundies

At The One Percent Movement, we are always seeking new ways to support and uplift the incredible women who dedicate their lives to helping others. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a morning tea and paint event for the inspiring "Food Fundies" – a group of remarkable women who run soup kitchens in the impoverished area of Fisantekraal, as well as the team behind the feeding scheme at Fisantekraal Primary School.

The event took place in the staff room of Fisantekraal Primary School, a space we proudly refurbished in 2022 to create a more welcoming environment for the hardworking staff. We were thrilled to join forces with Alani Nel, an accomplished artist and the founder of the non-profit Canvasations and the annual Women of Worth (WOW) exhibition. WOW is dedicated to inspiring and supporting female-led initiatives and celebrating extraordinary, ordinary women.

Alani led a vibrant and engaging creative workshop where the Food Fundies painted their own aprons. Each apron was a testament to the individuality and creativity of these incredible women, and it was heartwarming to see their unique personalities reflected in their artwork. The room was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the shared joy of artistic expression!

In addition to the painting workshop, we were delighted to distribute beautiful knitwear lovingly created by a talented group of ladies who donate their time and skills to knit and crochet for charity. Tannie Lissie, Tannie Estelle and Tannie Sarie - your kindness and generosity is so appreciated!! These gorgeous items will be distributed by the Food Fundies to people in need within their communities, extending the warmth and compassion of this special morning even further.

The event was a wonderful reminder of the power of community, creativity, and compassion. We are deeply grateful to Alani and our knitting angels for their inspiring contribution, and to the Food Fundies for their tireless dedication to feeding and nurturing their communities. At The One Percent Movement, we believe in the ripple effect of small acts of kindness, and this event was a beautiful example of how much can be achieved when we come together to support one another.
