Great Girls: Empowering Young Women To Commit To Their Futures
Following the announcement of our One Percent Movement, we are proud to share that it is already well underway.
In August, in keeping with Women’s Month, we named two companies as our new Outreach Partners, both celebrating and empowering women: Subz (read more about them here) and Great Girls. Here, we'll share with you why we were blown away by the incredible work that the latter does.
Great Girls is a non-profit organisation founded in 2014, when Kristina Miller realised that there was a dire need to equip school leavers with a comprehensive career preparation program.
Kristina was joined by a group of dedicated women to create such a program, seeking to inspire confidence and purpose into grade 11 and 12 girls.
After years of hard work and dedication, they now have an amazing two-month program running in the Cape Town suburbs of Belhar and Lavender Hill:
There are eight modules, ranging from goal-setting and visualisation, to creating a strong CV, interview techniques, workplace do’s and don’ts, labour law, personal care, public speaking, basic budgeting and tax information.
As we were listening to Kris talking to a group of 20 girls, we were transfixed - how we as women wished somebody had shared all of this valuable information with us! How often do we have to “reinvent the wheel”, when going out into the market place, simply because we were lacking in some very basic - but absolutely crucial - knowledge that would empower us to be better prepared. Better prepared, and therefore much more likely to succeed!
We left feeling privileged to be associated with this group and inspired by these women!
