L-Malic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) originally identified in apples in the 1700s. Today, it is widely used in skincare formulations for its multifunctional properties, including inhibiting yeasts, moulds, and bacteria, regulating pH levels, and providing gentle exfoliation.

As one of the larger AHA molecules, L-Malic Acid penetrates the skin more slowly, making it a gentler option compared to smaller AHAs like glycolic acid. This makes it particularly suitable for those with sensitive skin or for mild exfoliating treatments. It also has humectant properties, helping to draw and retain moisture in the skin.

Malic acid works well with Vitamin C, vegetable glycerine and hyaluronic acid to increase brightening and hydrating effects. Can also be used together with other acids. Add to shampoos, lotions, nail treatments, serums and acne and anti-aging products.

Usage: 1-3% in the aqueous phase.
