Let in deep calm with Lemon Balm. Native to Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, it is now aiding sleep worldwide. Traditionally, it was brewed into tea to ease stress, anxiety, restlessness and mild insomnia. It was also valued for helping digestive issues like bloating, gas, mild cramps, indigestion and even as a gentle detoxifier.
♡ Why we love it: Lemon Balm’s traditional uses are backed by science, with its rich blend of active compounds - including volatile oils, phenols, flavonoids, tannins and rosmarinic acid - supporting its calming and restorative reputation. These compounds not only give Lemon Balm its uniquely fresh scent but also have been shown to relax the mind, soothe the gut, reduce spasms and even offer neuroprotective benefits. Its antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant-rich nature makes it amazing for internal health, while as a skincare extract it brings gentle astringency, protection and soothing relief for cold sores, minor wounds and irritation.

1/3 c orris root
½ c salt
15 drops lemon oil and lime oil
In a large plastic bowl layer the flowers, herbs and berries. Top with the orris root and salt, then add the essential oils onto the salt. Mix together and cover the large bowl. Turn the ingredients daily for a month to ensure everything blends together. Store in plastic bags until ready for use. View more of our potpourri recipes on our blog.
Other uses
Can be used in DIY soaps: when it’s dried, lemon balm loses some of its lemony scent, but it still works very well in soap. It is said to be antiviral and can help to kill germs when you wash with it. It provides a dark green colour and a bit rougher exfoliation than lavender or chamomile, while not abrading the skin.
