World Clean-up Day: 18 September 2021

On 18 September, the Mosselbank River Conservation Team (MRCT) hosted a clean-up action, inspired by World Clean-up Day and Heritage Month.

The targeted area was an open field adjacent to the Mosselbank River. About 146 volunteers from all walks of life joined in the clean-up action (including a lot of Essentially Natural staff!), with scores of eager kids from the surrounding community jumping in to do their part, many showing off their heritage wear.

In just a few short hours, we collected a ton of waste - literally! The MRCT often host events like this, knowing that it prevents all this litter from ending up in the river and ultimately, the ocean.

The clean-up was brutal, but absolutely rewarding, especially basking in the knowledge that this desolate area will eventually return to its lush, delicate former self. At the end of the clean-up, the busy little helpers were rewarded with a snack box and our team happily contributed some juicy apples!

If you’d like to join in on the MRCT’s next clean-up day - the next one is already scheduled for November - be sure to follow them on Facebook!
