Dried psyllium seeds are used to relieve constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticular disease, and diarrhea.

INCI: Plantago ovata
  • A typical dose is 1-3 teaspoons per glass of water. Take this product with at least 8 ounces (a full glass) of water or other fluid
  • Can take this dose up to 3 times a day although once might be enough for constipation
  • Consume in between meals, never immediately after or before one
  • It is important to drink enough water during the day, when consuming Psyllium
  • Psyllium can be mixed with a pleasant-tasting drink, for example, fruit juice or in a shake to make it easier to ingest

Other uses include gluten-free baking, where ground psyllium seed husks bind moisture and help make the bread less crumbly.

  • Possible adverse reactions include allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, especially among those who have had regular exposure to psyllium dust.
  • Gastrointestinal tract obstruction may occur, especially for those with prior bowel surgeries or anatomic abnormalities, or if taken with inadequate amounts of water.
  • Taking this product without adequate fluid may cause it to swell and block your throat or esophagus and may cause choking.
  • Do not take this product if you have difficulty in swallowing.
  • If you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty in swallowing or breathing after taking this product, seek immediate medical attention
