Arrowroot powder (Maranta arundinacea) is a starch derived from the root of the arrowroot plant, which is native to South America. The powder is white and odorless and has a slightly sweet taste. It is commonly used as a thickener for sauces, gravies, and puddings, and can also be used as a gluten-free alternative to wheat flour in baking. It is also easily digested, making it a good option for people with digestive issues. Additionally, arrowroot powder is often used in cosmetics and personal care products as a thickening agent.

Arrowroot Powder is said to boost the metabolism, increase circulation and reduce blood pressure. It has great moisture absorbing qualities and can an be used in DIY cosmetics to help active ingredients to penetrate the upper levels of the skin.

Calming Lavender Shower Melts

1 c arrowroot powder or cornstarch

2 T Epsom salts

2 T water plus extra

5 - 7 drops lavender essential oil

Mix together the lavender oil, cornstarch and Epsom salts then add the water. You will need to gradually add extra water to form a thick paste. Once the paste is ready, decant into ice cube trays or molds and freeze until set. As long as you didn’t use too much water, you may remove the melts from the molds and store in an airtight container.

To use, place a melt on the floor of your shower and enjoying the calming lavender aroma. View our other Shower steamer and melts on our blog.
