Why Make A Scalp Scrub?
The main functions of Scalp Scrubs include:
- Exfoliation of dead skin cells
- Stimulate blood flow
This encourages hair growth and a healthy scalp microbiome.
When Should You Do A Scalp Scrub?
It’s generally best to do a salt scrub up to twice a week before washing your hair. Over exfoliation can cause damage to the scalp so do remember to to not salt scrub too often.
Overdoing it can strip natural oils, disrupt the scalp barrier, and lead to dryness, sensitivity, or even increased oil production as your skin tries to compensate. Always follow with a gentle shampoo and a moisturising treatment or scalp oil if needed.
Potential Substitutes:
- Cucumber Extract with a Cucumber Glycerite.
- Propanediol with Vegetable Glycerine.
- Polyquaternium 7 with Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride.
- Clearthix S with Xanthan Gum (note that this would slightly change the manner in which the formula is done).
- Sugar Crystals with Jojoba Scrub Beads or Apricot Kernels.
